Wrought iron gates can transform the way the house looks.
Wrought iron gates can transform the way the house looks. From simple to magnificent and from elegant to extraordinaire. Not to forget that it will add to the security to your home.
According to interiors specialist Claire Townsend of The Home Specialists, Dubai, having an imposing wrought iron gate symbolises that you are a wealthy person, trying to protect your property.
"Historically speaking wrought iron gates were used as a status symbol and well-to-do families installed them to stop trespassers. They also added to a sense of curiosity – what lies beyond the gates?
However, since it is also decorative by nature I would rather you go by the age-old adage of not judging a book by its cover!"
While minimalist styles are much more popular, the traditional Georgian and Victorian gold entrance gates have always been known to make a statement: "I've made it".
Townsend says: "Simple styles in gunmetal, silver and black are incredibly classy. But it is not so much the actual gate, more the locks and security.
Put in an electronic lock and password system, then you
are secure! "These days there are 'powered gates', which are great, especially in this part of the world during summer because you don't have to get out of the car to open it."
If you have been looking for one of those grandiose wrought iron gates for your house, Townsend suggests you check out the workshop in Sharjah opposite the cricket stadium.
"You can also take a picture of the gate you like from
a magazine and they will make it for you at a reasonable price," she says.
The story, however, does not end with the installation of the gate. "Always brush the gate in a downward direction with
a wire brush to remove any loose or rusty pieces. You can then apply a protector or paint."
