Madhuri Dixit Is Back: Come Dance With Me
A six-year break from movies seems to have taken nothing out of the Bollywood dancing queen.
Considering you have been away from the limelight for quite some time now, are you nervous about Aaja Nachle?
Of course. I have butterflies in my stomach.
There are rumours suggesting you had a showdown with Yash Raj Films over the delay in the promotion of the film.
No. I don't know who made up these stories. As a matter of fact, we deliberately decided to delay the promos as Om Shanti Om and Saawariya had just released. We wanted the frenzy thing to die down before we started promoting Aaja Nachle.
What is it about Aaja Nachle that will draw the crowds?
The script. Aaja Nachle has got a very good storyline and I am sure it will go down well with the audience.
Was it the dance element in the script that prompted you to do the movie?
Dance was an important factor, but the reason why I signed the movie is because I identified with the character of danseuse Dia who returns from the USA to take up the cause of a dying theatre company.
Was it difficult to find your bearings?
Not really. Acting is like swimming or cycling – you can never forget it.
There were butterflies in my stomach when I faced the camera for the first time after all these years but after the first day of the shoot, things fell into place.
Finally, how does it feel to come back and see that your fans haven't forgotten you?
Wonderful! My fans have welcomed me with open arms. Everyone has been genuinely happy for me.
