Dubai's City 7 TV is seeking a talk show hostess a la Oprah Winfrey. Vikram Singh Barhat tells us more.

The hunt is on for Dubai's very own Oprah Winfrey. City Women, a show on Dubai's first English language television channel, City 7 TV, is looking for a presenter for the daily half-hour-long TV magazine show for women.

As part of its expansion plan, the popular show – for women, by women and about women – will get a new face and fresh opinions to join its current host Julie Mathews who has been with the show since its inception in August 2007.

Beauty tips

"Basically it's a lifestyle show for women. We look to be a platform and voice of women's issues here in the Middle East. We cover everything from fashion and beauty tips to inspirational women, travel, social issues, wellbeing, health – all things concerning women," said Mathews who is also supervising producer of the show.

A Bermudian national, Mathews said the "current season of the show will be concluded in July and we have decided to change things a little bit and have a new look, new set, with a new face and fresh opinions".

The show, she explained, is looking for a woman over 25, who is intelligent, witty, spontaneous, charismatic and with the ability to think on her feet.

"We don't have a specific personality type that we are looking for. There is lots of talent out there. We will know when we see her."

Aspiration

Given the format of the show, comparisons with Oprah Winfrey are expected. "Oprah has been in this business for a very long time. I aspire to be like her one day. I am nowhere near her but that said people have made the comparison and I am very grateful for that sort of thing."

The search was launched on June 12 and met with a great response.
