Holistic approach to healing
Exam stress, parental pressure, nerves before an interview for that coveted internship. A student's life can rate high on the stress-o-meter.
The world busies itself stereotyping students as lazy. It forgets that students have real issues, that they too get stressed and that they too are looking for effective ways to deal with their worries. With turning to the school or university counsellor not always a realistic option, Notes decided to look to other ways to help students deal with the pressures that accompany life in the academic world.
What it found was success, a workshop conducted by Dr Aasha Warriar, a clinical hypnotherapist and the chief operating officer of The International Academy of Life.
Empowerment
A former banker by profession, Warriar found her true calling in empowering others. She helps students address performance issues, deadline stress and career choices without stressing themselves. Advocating a holistic approach, she believes that humans operate on four levels at all times.
"Our root level is thought, which generates our emotions. These emotions in turn affect our energy levels and energy levels have an overall effect on our physical condition," she said.
She believes that to tackle issues in their entirety they must be addressed at all levels, starting from the root level thoughts. Before addressing any problem, it is necessary to identify the intention behind an action.
"For example, if a student is going into medicine, it is probably wise to ask 'why?' If someone wants to be a doctor, is it because they want to do it and are motivated by it or because they want to prove to their parents that they can? If they are doing it to prove something, then their desire to be a doctor does not arise out of a passion but instead a void. And it is this void that must be tackled, in order to help them find a career that genuinely interests them," she said. "To excel at a position one must truly enjoy it," added Warriar.
In the same vein, unmanageable interview stress can often be traced back to more than just nerves.
"Sometimes this stress can stem from a negative event or a dysfunctional paradigm in a person's life, which hinders them from realising their true potential."
In addition to tackling issues, Warriar also offers advice and techniques on how to enhance memory, build self-confidence and let go of any negative ideas that might be hindering their development.
Is this for everybody?
"Yes, self empowerment is all about believing in yourself, and I believe that everybody has that in them," said Warriar.
Those who are unsure about the methodology of this process will find that everything is explained to them in a scientific and logical manner.
"We make it our job to dispel any misconceptions surrounding our therapeutic processes. We never get into therapy until we feel that the client is entirely comfortable and open to it," she said.
Soniyaa Punjabi, a Dubai-based transformational coach, said on the benefits of their approach, "It has really helped me tap my true potential. I am more confident and more aware of my actions and myself. It has transformed my life to such a degree that I am now dedicating my time and efforts to helping others achieve the same transformation."
