Grab the Satch

If there was one musical play to see this summer, it was Ambassador Satch: the Life and Music of Louis Armstrong. Performed at the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, the show starred the talented André De Shields as Louis Armstrong.

Through song and dance and a series of amusing jokes, De Shields tells the story of one of the true fathers of jazz.
Superb musicians

His energetic performance is enhanced by his five superb musicians who also acted in the play. The voluptuous Harriet D. Foy plays the role of Armstrong's four wives and changed costume around five times during the two-hour play last week. With D. Foy's performance matching De Shields's in energy and talent, it's hard to imagine that the show ran several years without her.

Spectacular

Overall, it was a spectacular and heartfelt performance by the whole team. If only more people had attended to see what I saw. Personally speaking, Ambassador Satch is one of the few musical performances I've seen that has kept me interested all the way through.
