Giving a financial helping hand
Al Maktoum Charity Organisation gave Dubai's Men and Women Colleges a cheque of Dh600,000 as financial aid, to purchase laptops for the underprivileged.
The money was presented a press conference held last week at Dubai Men's College (DMC). The press conference was attended by Dr Tayeb Kamali, Vice Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) and other officails.
The cheque was presented on the instruction of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry.
Strict background checks will be undertaken to determine which students to receive laptops.
To cope with the rapid development of technology, the colleges introduced laptops in their programmes and in all the degrees including diploma and higher diploma.
Students from the higher diploma and diploma foundation gave a glimpse into the application of the new technology.
They showed two short-movies to not only demonstrate the use of the technology, but also to present the World Challenge — Adventure Quest Dubai, that was held in the college.
Mona Mohammad Ali Abdullah from Dubai Women's College (DWC), showed how laptops facilitate long distance learning. Through laptops the students are able to have a class taught by a teacher who may be half way across the world.
"The World Challenge provides the students with skills for leadership and innovation, which they need for the future," said Dr Philip Hicks, DWC director.
