Life interwined

Life is a funny thing. Everyone encounters their own problems, their own miseries. Yet despite the conflicts on our shoulders, human beings still have a thirst for listening to the problems of others.

And I'm not talking about constructive daily conversation between friends or colleagues – I'm talking about the public portrayal of individuals and their personal battles with life.

I go back home, switch on the TV and Dr Phil is on. Never taking the time to watch his show simply because of the goofy look on his face (I can't help it, but I just can't take the man seriously), I decide that for some unknown reason, this time I'll try to sit through it.

As I watch, I am sickened by the audience's reaction on the show. They cheer and applaud to one redundant comment after another. "You two need to sit down and talk this out and truly believe in your hearts that you can change this," he says speaking with a I think to myself, "Wow — talk things out? A belief in our hearts? Who would've thought? "

Yes, it seems sadly that is the direction of humanity — towards a twisted desire for conflict and drama. Of course some stories are an inspiration for those who may be facing similar crises, but others are outright ridiculous. I feel that sometimes the line between inspiration and exploiting others' problems is greatly blurred.

At the end, we don't need some goofy bold guy with a moustache to lead us in the right direction. I think the "right direction" lies within us. True, sometimes we need the help of others to help bring it out — as many times life throws at us unexpected obstacles that make us lose sight of the direction we're heading — but whether or not we find our way depends on who we decide to trust. And when life does decide to throw us a bone we should be ready to catch it.
