Launched last September 24, the Zayed University e-biz challenge is now in its fourth year. This event encourages student groups including three and a faculty member to form a team from across the GCCcountries to submit e-business plans for judging by industry leaders.

The purpose of the challenge is to identify and recognise talent making them the entrepreneurs of tomorrow. The challenge also provides students with excellent networking and professional growth opportunities.

In addition to great hands-on experience exhibiting their talent and creativity, students get feedback on their plans from other entrepreneurs and successful professionals, as well as the chance to compete for valuable prizes.

They also learn about entrepreneurship and innovation, as well as intellectual property issues.

This year, the challenge will include a competition on e-services organised in partnership with the Dubai government.

Students will make submissions providing:

  • A marketing plan that creates awareness and informs the general public on the introduction of a new eservice
  • Customer migration to e-services, which pushes customers to conduct business with government departments using online methods
  • Innovative e-service by developing an idea, feasibility study, financial implications, vendor selection, or a project plan for an innovative e-service
  • A marketing campaign by promoting the service to the semi-government or private sector, and utilising marketing media with costs allocated to each medium.

The challenge is run by a team in the Institute for Technological Innovation (ITI) at Zayed University.

Employment fair:
Sharjah Men's College's Employer Relations Office hosted an employment fair for the graduates of 2004 and 2005.

The purpose of the event was to establish an active connection with graduates, introduce them to prospective employers, and provide skills needed for negotiating an effective job search.

"Thirty five young men returned to SMC to take advantage of the various support services offered to help our graduates secure jobs," said Yousuf Habshi, employer relations coordinator at SMC.

"Our office updates employment statistics in our graduate database, advertises available jobs on the college website, and connects graduates with employers as part of our strategy to help these candidates. "
