An air-conditioned stadium with a capacity of about 1,200 guests is being built on Barasti beach in time for the football World Cup in South Africa.

Barasti has partnered with Carlsberg to deliver a true football experience. African + Eastern and Carlsberg are delighted to be involved with another first for Dubai and Barasti.

"After months of planning and collaboration, we are looking forward to a fantastic summer trading period in the Barasti Beach Stadium," said David Beattie, sales manager for African + Eastern.

Barasti has also teamed up with Arabian Radio Network's channels Dubai 92, City and Virgin radio to promote the Barasti Beach Stadium. Steve Smith, COO, Arabian Radio Network, said: "We are glad to offer our radio platforms to back this event through our partnership with Barasti. With the scale and optimum viewing opportunities that the dome will provide, we are confident it will prove to be one of the most popular venues for football fans in the UAE through the football season."

The mega dome — 35 metres in circumference, 17.5 metres high and weighing over 20 tonnes — is scheduled to open on June 10.

Entry is free and the Barasti Beach Stadium will be open from 2pm-2.30am daily, with a 270-tonne air-conditioning unit providing a cool environment. The screen, 12 metres wide, is the equivalent of watching an area the size of 100 television sets.
