When Bollywood actor Chunky Panday’s niece Alanna Panday decided to tie the knot with her long-time Italian photographer boyfriend Ivor on March 16, the 1million-plus fans of the Los Angeles-based content creator and influencer were sure they were up for a visual delight. And Alanna did not disappoint.

Designed by India’s ace designer Manish Malhotra, the ethereal tulle ivory hand-embroidered lehenga was inspired by the exquisite chikankari work of the designer’s Mijwan collection. The intricate floral motifs with borders in delicate threadwork, crystals, pearls, and sequins, ensures this lehenga remains a timeless masterpiece, a perfect fit in the ‘enchanted forest’ theme set in Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. The look was completed with a scallop-edged translucent veil and fine jewellery by Manish Malhotra himself.

Child actor and one of south Indian cinema’s most popular actresses, Hansika Motwani has always succeeded in grabbing headlines. And her marriage to Sohael on December 11, 2022 was no less, what with Sohael divorcing his first wife and Hansika’s close friend to marry Hansika. Controversies aside, Hansika’s wedding outfit, the breath-takingly vibrant red lehenga designed by Rimple and Harpreet, is not only exquisite in craftsmanship but awe-inspiring in context too as it included designs inspired by Mughal miniature art and brocade fragments that were from the 18th century, giving it that true royal appeal.

When two of Bollywood’s most popular and good-looking actors decided to tie the knot in a stunning setting in Rajasthan on February 7 this year, they unsurprisingly set new standards in gorgeous-ness. And their wedding wear only added to the unfiltered timeless romantic vibe the couple successfully created. Designed by Bollywood’s A-list couturier, Manish Malhotra himself, Kiara’s ombre wedding lehenga in three shades of Empress Rose, is embellished with 30,000 Swarovski crystals. What is not so known is that it is a tribute to the couple’s love for Italy’s capital city Rome. The designer incorporated the city’s iconic architectural feature – its domes – into the outfit, which, hold your breath, took 3,700 man hours and 200 artisans to make. That’s not all, Kiara’s ‘mismatched’ jewellery, that stunning set of natural diamonds and Zambian emeralds, was also designed by Manish.

When long-time love birds decided to get married in an intimate ceremony at Athiya’s father Suniel Shetty’s farmhouse in Khandala on January 23, 2023, they proved lavish is not just about pomp and splendour but it is in the details. From the intricately designed chikankari and zardozi bridal lehenga paired with barely there makeup to the muted gold sari and fuss-free hair-dos, Athiya, the bride, was proof that elaborate is so yesterday. But the highlight of Athiya’s wedding ensemble was the white chikankari pantsuit by Anjul Bhandari. Yes, a pantsuit. Embellished with baby pearls and sequins, Athiya wore this stunning ode to exquisite age-old craftsmanship for one of the wedding functions.

Swara Bhasker and Fahad Ahmad

After registering their marriage in the court in February this year, this couple went all out to celebrate their union in a host of traditional functions held across several days and several cities starting March 11. While Swara made a strong fashion statement all through out, it was her lehenga that she wore for the walima (reception) in her husband’s hometown Bareilly that made the headlines. Designed by one of Pakistan’s top designer Ali Xeeshan, the heavily-embroidered muted ivory gold lehenga with white, pink and green stonework, travelled from Lahore to Dubai to Mumbai, then Delhi and finally its destination Bareilly. The attire is an exquisite example of the designer’s signature craftsmanship and contemporary style. What made it all the more special was the fact that the designer customised the outfit with personalised details and messages that were embroidered into the outfit.

While the actress’s wedding outfit did not deviate much from the traditional/ethnic line, her reception outfit threw caution to the wind. It is bohemian, maximalist and as many fashion magazines put it, ‘quirky’. The multi-coloured handcrafted sari-gown, designed by Anamika Khanna, not only breaks all bridal wear rules in terms of style, its heavy print and embellishment proves pretty need not be conventional. The garment features colourful heavy embroidery with intricate sequin, mirror embellishments and patchwork motifs – Anamika Khanna’s signature design style. PS: Richa’s mangalsutra (the marital necklace) is designed by Bulgari.

Natasa Stankovic and Hardik Pandya

When the ‘bad boy’ of Indian cricket Hardik Pandya decided to renew his vows with his Serbian actor and model wife Natasa Stankovic on Valentine’s Day this year, he decided to go big and desi. The venue was the very lavish Raffles hotel in the picturesque Udaipur in Rajasthan and the pictures from their Hindu as well as the Western wedding ceremonies on their Instagram page, aptly showcased the opulence of the ceremonies. For the Hindu wedding, the couple wore colour coordinated outfits designed by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. In fact, Natasa’s gold, beige and red, heavily-embellished ghagra caused quite a stir. Custom-made, the embroidered gota ghagra and blouse set along with the gorgeous bandhani dupatta in red added the perfect royal appeal to the radiant bride.
