From a matrimonial app to a fairytale wedding

Love stories in the digital age are considered a rarity, but Anand Tripathi and Anjali Pandey’s union is a testament to the power of modern romance. As the Regional Manager of Ad Sales, and a Marketing and Branding Executive, respectively, they embarked on a journey that led them from the pixels of a matrimonial app to a real-life fairytale wedding. In an exclusive interview, the couple shares their heartwarming tale, wedding vision, and the moments that made their special day unforgettable.

“Anjali is someone who is very caring, innocent, and family-oriented,” says Anand. “The best thing about Anjali is her clean heart, which I find very rare these days.”

Anjali reciprocates the sentiment, describing Anand as “caring, supportive, and family-oriented,” adding that his “irresistible sense of humour” and “respect for others” set him apart. Their virtual connection on a matrimonial app blossomed into a deep emotional bond that transcended geographical boundaries.

“We exchanged numbers and started talking daily,” Anand recalls. “After four months of calls, messages and video chats, I flew down to India for summer holidays, and we finally decided to meet in Delhi.”

Anjali remembers that moment with a touch of humour. “I was quite hesitant and scared to meet, not sure why LOL,” she says. “But when we finally met in a cafe in Hauz Khaz, Delhi, we hugged each other and didn’t feel like being apart ever. Soon after, we both decided to let our families know and arranged a meeting for our wedding.”

Their wedding vision was a beautiful blend of simplicity and grandeur. Anand wanted a reflection of their cultural values, while Anjali’s family leaned towards a more lavish wedding.

The venue, Vasudeva Gardens in Dwarka, Delhi, set the stage for their union. Their theme was a splendid fusion of traditional Indian elements, with abundant decorations, exquisite lighting, and a sumptuous spread of Indian cuisine.

For their attire, Anand looked every bit the royal prince in his off-white sherwani, adorned with Kundan jewellery and a feathered safa. Anjali was a vision of elegance in her heavy Rajasthani hand-embroidered lehenga with intricate details. The couple’s outfits perfectly complemented each other and their wedding’s theme.

Planning a wedding is never without its challenges, and Anand and Anjali faced theirs head-on. Anjali’s mother initially had reservations about her daughter marrying someone living abroad, but eventually, Anjali’s love for Anand won her over.

Another hurdle was the long-distance coordination of wedding preparations, with Anand in Dubai and Anjali in Delhi. They relied on virtual meetings with vendors, phone calls, and Anand’s occasional trips to India to ensure everything was on track.

Their wedding was a feast for the eyes, with Anand’s regal appearance and Anjali’s resplendent lehenga stealing the show. Anand’s off-white embroidered turban, sherwani, and ornate stole exuded royalty. Anjali’s red raw silk lehenga, hand-embroidered with threads, beads, and stones, was a work of art, perfectly complemented by her net dupatta with yellow and red embroidered edges.

But the celebrations didn’t stop at the wedding. The couple hosted a delightful cocktail party at One8 Commune by Virat Kohli in Delhi Aerocity, where they invited close friends from both sides. This event was an opportunity to create memories with friends through dance, music, and shared laughter.

As their eyes met on their wedding day, the world melted away. Anand recalls, “The best moment of our wedding day was when we both saw each other in the wedding hall. We initially smiled with shy eyes and talked to each other through our eyes. We got a bit emotional while seeing each other in our wedding attire, knowing that this was the day we had been waiting for.”
