Ras Al Khaimah: In the spirit of Ramadan, Ras Al Khaimah Hospital is offering free eye checkups to all taxi drivers in the emirate through its successful ‘NazarAyeni’ programme. The initiative was announced at the annual iftar distribution held on Tuesday evening during which the hospital gifted iftar packets to hundreds of cab drivers.

‘NazarAyeni’ is a mobile eye screening initiative for prevention of preventable blindness programme that aims to ensure eye checkups for all residents of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah over a period of time, and to identify the cases where the residents may require further eye treatment in order to avoid preventable blindness.

Acknowledging the physical strain that a taxi driver experiences during a day’s work, RAK Hospital is also offering a free consultation with a specialist ophthalmologist to anyone who requires medical intervention.

Raza Siddiqui, CEO of Arabian Healthcare Group and executive director of RAK Hospital, said, “The annual gifting of iftar packages to the cab drivers in Ras Al Khaimah is our very small token of appreciation for their untiring services … For a driver, few capabilities are more precious than a good eyesight, and for cab drivers who are not only responsible for their own safety but that of their passengers as well, sharp vision is a prerequisite.”

The hospital regularly organises wellness activities, screening camps, competitions, lectures and workshops to engage the UAE residents to create and adopt a healthier and fulfilling lifestyle.
