April 2 is a special day in Malayalam actor Kunchako Boban’s life — his tenth wedding anniversary.
Last seen as the domineering husband in Manju Warrier’s How Old Are You?, Boban plans celebrating this red-letter day, also World Autism Awareness Day, with wife Priya at an autism awareness walk at Sharjah Corniche.
Boban will walk in his capacity as Goodwill Ambassador of Al Fasht Medical Centre in Sharjah, and will be supported by Sharjah Indian Association and students of Sharjah School from 5pm.
“This is not a mere business initiative for me,” said Boban of his association, by phone from Kerala.
“I took it up since there is a charity value attached to the services offered by this medical centre. The charges here are lower and affordable when compared to other clinics in UAE. Besides, special care on a one-to-one basis is assured here.”
Last year, on their wedding day, Boban and Priya spent time in the company of special children at Kusumagiri Hospital in Kakkinaad in Kerala.
“It was one of the happiest day for us,” remembered Boban.
“Performing with children was sheer joy. I was touched when parents called up later to share the happiness of their children who were excited to see themselves on television during a telecast later. To know that we had made a difference in their lives was an emotional moment.
“Blue is the symbolic colour for World Autism Day.
“Even if one is not able to participate in the walk, wearing the colour blue will add support to the cause,” added Boban.
Boban’s next film, Chirakodinja Kinnavukal, a spoof film based on the story of the 1996 Azhakiya Ravanan is ready for a May release.
Another film that he has wrapped up is Valiya Chirakulla Pakshikal, directed by National award winner Dr Biju. This story is based on photojournalist Madhuraj’s life and his depiction of the misery the villagers of Kasargode in Kerala underwent owing to the aerial spraying of a killer insecticide called endosulphan in 2001.
“That is a film close to my heart,” said Boban, who plays a journalist, Madhuraj.
