Sundarra Elangovan, former associate of director Bala, opens his directorial innings with a police thriller, Arthanaari. This story is centred around a policewoman who is investigating a case and the challenges she encounters.
Kannada actress Arundhati, who was last seen in Tamil film Naigal Jagirthai is Satyapriya, an encounter specialist.
Arundhati says that she was drawn to the role as the story is based on a real-life incident. Besides undergoing training under a police officer for two weeks, Arundhati also attended stunt classes for her action sequences.
“On the suggestion of my director, I also watched few films like The Blue Steel and The Bone Collector as well as Bollywood’s Mardhani,” said Arundhati.
“It infused me with an energy to get into the skin of Satyapriya.”
Newcomer Raam Kumar is introduced in the lead role as Kartik, a civil engineer who gets entangled in the case that Satyapriya is pursuing.
Veteran actor Nasser plays a social worker who rehabilitates child labourers, getting them into schools. Other cast members include actors Rajendran of Naan Kadavul fame and Sambath Ram.
Selva Ganesh has composed music, to lyrics written by Kabilan Vairamuthu. Sri Ranjan Rao is the cinematographer.
Arthanaari is produced by A.S. Muthamizh and releases in India on July 8.
