Brand new fitness-based reality show, India’s Asli Champion... Hai Dum! will feature six women and six men, all fitness enthusiasts who will undergo different tests that will assess their mental and physical endurance levels. The contestants, belonging to different fields of work, will battle it out at various levels to achieve the title of India’s Asli Champion, under the watchful eye of host and Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty.
The contestants, who will be living in what has been called the Champions Village in Goa will, every week, be given medals based on their performance on various tasks, under the supervision of celebrity fitness trainers Shivoham and Vrinda Mehta.
The winner of the final title of India’s Asli Champion will be decided on the basis of the contestants’ performance at the final triathlon which will include running, cycling and swimming. One man and one woman will be selected.
Speaking about the criteria on which the contestants were selected, Shetty said, “On the basis of their flexibility, their strength, stamina, their willingness and core strength. You have to be a fit person to be able to take part in India’s Asli Champion. I think three or four hundred of them failed at the selection level itself.”
Here are the contestants:
1. Sunil Menon
The 43-year-old is the second Iron Man coach in India to have completed the 2014 Iron Man race in South Africa.
2. Urmimala Boruah
She is a 32-year-old gym trainer and businesswoman from Guwahati and the only earning member in her family. She is also the mother of a 14 year old national level tennis champion.
3. Arjun Khurana
A student and fitness trainer, the 24 year old seeks to make it big in the field of fitness.
4. Supa Parveen
Hailing from Kolkata, Parveen is a professional athlete. She has previously won silver and bronze medals in the National 100m relay and long jump competition.
5. Sumit Kurhade
The 25-year-old is a state level cricketer, online trainer and fitness model. In the Maharashtra Premier League, he was awarded the titles of Man of the Match and Outstanding Batsman.
6. Gurleen Kaur
A professional Wushu fighter from Delhi, Kaur seeks to represent India at an International level in Taekwondo.
7. Chinmay Mhatre
Mhatre is a stand-up comedian from Pune. He is also a state level swimmer, having participated in many marathons in the past.
8. Aishwarya Salagare
A victim of bullying due to her weight, the 22-year-old student from Mumbai decided to fight back by losing the weight in a year.
9. Niraj Rao
Rao is a professional footballer and has played for the Deccan Rovers Football Club. In 2017, he was given the title of the 4th fittest athlete in Pune as part of Shivfit: Battle of the Fittest.
10. Swati Chauhan
Chauhan is an actor, model and international level swimmer. She is a resident of Mumbai.
11. Sanjay Negi
The 30-year-old from Agra has previously failed several attempts at joining the Indian army but doesn’t plan on giving up. He is currently a fitness trainer by profession.
12. Kavita Kolapkar
Kolapkar is a software engineer and professional swimmer. She won the 7th rank in 010 CWG and 4th rank in 2008 Asian games.
