Newly engaged Genelia D'Souza talks about marriage and playing the unsmiling princess

She's chirpy and cheery on the big screen, but Bollywood actress Genelia D'Souza has got the deadpan act down to an art when it comes to interviews. But don't be fooled — the Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na star has a lot to be happy about in her life. On the personal front, she is gearing up to marry her longtime actor boyfriend Riteish Deshmukh early next year and on the professional front she won the Best Actress Asianvision Malayalam Award last weekend in Sharjah for her debut Malayalam action epic Urumi, in which she plays 16th century warrior princess act.
"I am an excited bride, but that's all I am comfortable saying. I am a woman of few words," said D'Souza in an interview with tabloid! after her win. The couple went public with their relationship on Twitter this month after announcing their engagement.
"It's been a journey for both of us. But I cannot tell you about how he proposed or anything. I am very excited — it's going to be new phase in my life but I don't want to go into details. I want everybody to give it the dignity that it has always got," said D'Souza.
On her latest professional achievement, the 24-year-old- actress said: "My award for Urumi is an answer to all those who thought that I can only do chirpy roles. With this I proved that I can do a role without cracking a smile."
With films such as Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na and Mere Baap Pehle Aap, her onscreen chirpiness has been hailed and scrutinised at great length. Though it was refreshing to watch her in the beginning, her roles got a tad monotonous.
"Such opinions are subjective and I don't dwell on it too much. When people think you are perfect for chirpy roles, then it's an advantage. But in Urumi, I didn't crack a smile — even once — but it still worked. So there you go."
Meanwhile, producer Kumar Taurani confirmed his Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya, a romantic comedy bringing D'Souza and Deshmukh together onscreen after seven years, will release in 2012.
