It was reported today that Pakistani pop singer Abrar Ul Haq had been detained at Dubai International Airport — one publication even claiming he was arrested — for travelling on an expired passport or invalid UAE visa.
Haq is performing in Dubai tonight at the Indo-Pak Music Festival Part One, at Wonderland Theme & Water Park with Indian singers Kanika Kapoor (Baby Doll Mein Sone Di) and Ankit Tiwari (Sun Rahai Hai Tu).
When tabloid! contacted organisers Dream Advertising and Ministry of Events, they “rubbished” the rumours. Qayyum Khogani, the passport consular at Pakistani Consulate agreed.
“Abrar was detained but not because he had expired travelling documents. It was only because he had different names in his passport and valid UAE visa,” said Khogani. “He was cleared quite quickly”.
Haq is one of the most popular award-winning Pakistani singers, known most for his hit Billo De Ghar. He is also president of the youth wing of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
