Anyone who has ever done an engine swap on their cars knows that the new motor will not just drop in. Swapping an engine - because the original one was damaged or you wanted more power or whatever the reason may be - requires a lot of time and skill.

Once it is in the engine bay, you then need to then figure a way to get fuel and air into it, coolant to flow around it, connect a radiator to it, send electronic signals to the dashboard and of course transmit drive to the wheels.

If you manage to achieve all of that without a hitch then well done. But what engine have you fitted to your car? Enthusiasts will never put a Ford motor under the bonnet of a Chevy or vice versa due to the historic rivalry between the two. It is just not done. But someone has done something very unusual to their 1995 Diablo; they have swapped the glorious V12 for a LS3 V8 from a Corvette…

Fits like a glove... The original 6.0-litre V12 suffered fire damage and was replaced with this LS3 V8 from a Chevrolet Corvette. Image Credit: Craigslist

The Italian supercar, currently on sale online, has been outfitted with the American-made GM motor. But there’s a good reason, apparently… The Lamborghini’s 6.0-litre V12 was fire-damaged and rather than have it repaired for goodness knows how much (a lot, probably) a V8 was sourced instead. It gets even more intriguing as the gearbox was also replaced and no, not with a Chevy transmission but a manual from a Porsche 911!

Now, according to the owner, the Diablo – which also has been fitted with a limited-slip differential - has 550 horses and it is for sale in Moapa, Nevada.

The seller did not stop there; once the mechanical work was complete he turned his attention to the interior and fitted heated seats with orange stitching, an aftermarket sound system and of course the most important add of all - cup holders…
