The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been the benchmark for luxury flagship saloons for decades. Technology features and creature comforts that you see in a new S-Class today is very likely the industry standard tomorrow. So, when Mercedes-Benz introduces its latest iteration of this iconic flagship saloon the best ever S-Class and the most advanced car ever, it indeed points to a truly landmark motor car. With a short front overhang, a long wheelbase and a balanced rear overhang, the new S-Class boasts classic saloon proportions. The wide track adds to the car’s muscular stance. Image Credit: Supplied

The headlamps feature the three-point daytime driving light signature that is typical of the S-Class, now flatter and slightly smaller overall than before. Image Credit: Supplied

The dynamic appearance of the car is carried over to the rear, which represents the biggest departure in design from the outgoing model. The new taillight creates a new signature for the S-Class in both their day and night design. Image Credit: Supplied

Positioned as a “personal wellness oasis”, the new S-Class cabin, according to the carmaker, has evolved into a “third place”, a refuge between home and workplace. All comfort-related aspects of the S-Class have improved in the front as well as the rear seats, providing a generous amount of space. Image Credit: Supplied

Complementing the relaxing effect of the interior are elements apparently inspired by architecture and yacht design. Large trim elements in the dashboard and First Class rear suite can be specced in open-pore wood veneer with inlays made of real aluminium. Image Credit: Supplied

The LED interior lighting is interactive with the ambient lighting now integrated into the driving assistance systems and is able to highlight alerts visually. For example, Active Blind Spot Assist provides a visual warning of an impending collision with a red light animation. Additionally, visual feedback is also possible when operating the climate control system or the 'Hey Mercedes' voice assistant. Image Credit: Supplied

Since most of the S-Class clients are known to occupy the rears seats, Mercedes-Benz has incorporated an extensive array of infotainment and comfort features for the rear passengers. The second generation of MBUX learn-capable system makes its debut in the new S-Class with up to five large screens with extensive options for personalisation and intuitive operation. Rear seat occupants in the new S-Class will have access to up to three touchscreens and a variety of different control options such as MBUX Interior Assist or the voice control assistant “Hey Mercedes”. The voice assistant "Hey Mercedes" is now capable of dialogue and its functions include accepting a telephone call, displaying the navigation map or even explaining where the first-aid kit is located, or how to connect a smartphone via Bluetooth. "The S-Class is the world's best-selling luxury sedan. With the latest generation we want to offer our customers innovation, safety, comfort and quality as never before. The future of Daimler will continue to be fascinating, sustainably climate- neutral and sustainably profitable. We concentrate on producing the most desirable cars in the world. This has been our promise, and it is the best way towards more profitable growth." Ola Källenius, Chairman of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG Image Credit: Supplied
