More than 1,300 lots of tractors, vintage trucks, signs and farm relics crossed the auction block at the Gone Farmin’ Spring Classic in Davenport, Iowa, USA between June 17 and 20. The overall sales from the event by Mecu Auctions reached more than $5 million with this 1938 Minneapolis-Moline UDLX Comfortractor grabbing the top-selling spot, fetching $129,150 (Dh474,000).

Minneapolis-Moline, a company established in the late 1920s with the merger of Minneapolis Steel, Moline Plow and the Minneapolis Threshing Machine Company, began making tractors in early 1930s.

The yellow-hued tractor, with serial no. 540640D, has been restored after a painstaking 1,150 man-hours project. Designed in 1938 and labelled the Comfortractor, it is considered one of the finest UDLX tractors in existence.

One of only 125 produced, this tractor’s features include a rear view mirror with clock, cab heater, radio, spotlight, drawbar, lighter, and glove box among others.

Built as a multipurpose vehicle to be used in the fields and to drive to town, it was the first farm tractor with a cab and has a top speed of 45mph (72kph).
