The Stinger GT, which came out in 2017, played a significant role in altering the image and perception of Kia as a brand. Despite having no performance heritage, the South Korean carmaker managed to build the Stinger as a proper sports saloon in every sense with help from ex-BMW M engineer Albert Biermann. Today, Kia has released the first images of the upgraded Stinger.

The upgraded fastback saloon has been revealed in Korean specification for Kia’s domestic market, and gets a range of design updates, inside and out. Up front, it gets new reflector LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights with a refreshed design.

At the rear, an updated combination lamp shows off a new light signature, extending the full width of the car. The new turn signals comprise a collection of ten individual LED units each, arranged in a grid pattern to mimic the appearance of a checkered flag, suggestive of the car’s decent performance credentials.

Kia says buyers of more powerful examples of the Stinger now have the option to specify larger wide-bore bright silver exhaust mufflers, with a more purposeful rear diffuser to beef up the looks.

While the cabin design remains unchanged, it gets a few subtle enhancements such as a metallic finish on the lower section of the steering wheel, a chrome bezel that now surrounds the 7.0-inch fully-digital instrument cluster and a frameless rear-view mirror among others. The new Kia Stinger is due to go on sale in Korea during the third quarter of 2020 with sales in many of Kia’s global markets set to follow.
