Fourth-generation Hyundai Tucson completes testing ahead of reveal

Even before the fourth-generation Tucson was teased by Hyundai last week, the mid-size SUV has been undergoing tests all across the world under varying conditions. Now, the South Korean carmaker has released images and details of the SUV’s towing capacity being put to the test on mountain roads in Austria.

The set of images released today show a camouflaged prototype pulling a trailer. This was part of the last leg of testing and quality assurance ahead of the SUV’s market launch.

Durability tests and dynamic testing were done at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, while public-road testing was done throughout Europe from the cold winter testing conditions in Sweden to trailer testing in the Alps and hot weather testing in the south of Spain.

The Tucson’s towing capacity was tested in the Austrian Alps. On the Grossglockner mountain, Hyundai’s engineers took the all-new Tucson on a difficult route with a trailer, testing the vehicle’s behavior while towing a trailer uphill, downhill and around corners.

The fourth-generation will be the first Tucson to be developed under Hyundai’s new design identity, dubbed Sensuous Sportiness. The digital world premiere of the all-new Tucson will take place on September 15.
