With output figures of 550 horsepower and 600Nm of torque, the V8 under the Aston Martin DBX’s bonnet already has an abundance of oomph. But the boffins in Gaydon don’t seem to have been content with that. That’s why they have now announced the new DBX 707, a significantly higher-performance version of the Aston Martin DBX, boasting a host of mechanical upgrades that make it the most powerful luxury SUV from a mainstream automaker.

Positioned as a direct rival to the likes of Range Rover Sport SVR, Bentley Bentayga S and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, the DBX 707 is powered by an uprated version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 that churns out 707 horsepower and 900Nm, a bump of 157 horses and 200Nm over the ‘regular’ DBX.

Led by Aston Martin’s Head of Powertrain Engineering, Ralph Illenberger, the DBX707’s engine now features ball bearing turbochargers and a bespoke engine calibration to release more power and torque. The high performance SUV also gets a 9-speed ‘wet clutch’ automatic transmission capable of managing way more torque loadings compared to a regular torque converter automatic.

“With this exceptional new model we have truly unlocked the performance potential within the DBX to create a world beating high-performance SUV. The huge gains we have found in both power and torque demonstrates not only the inherent prowess of the 4.0-litre biturbo V8, but Aston Martin’s appetite and ability for finding uncompromising engineering solutions. The combination of this magnificent engine with a new 9-speed ‘wet-clutch’ transmission sits at the heart of DBX707’s formidable capabilities and unforgettable character,” says Ralph Illenberger.

Thanks to the enhanced output and the better launch capability, DBX707 does the 0-100kph dash in a mere 3.3 seconds. Aiding the DBX707’s handling prowess is its air suspension system with a dedicated chassis tune optimised to meet its high performance demands.

Behind the 22in alloy wheels (an optional 23in alloy wheel is offered in a choice of textured black or satin black) are standard fitment Carbon Ceramic Brakes. Measuring 420mm front and 390mm rear, these CCB discs are gripped by 6-piston callipers and result in a 40.5kg reduction in unsprung weight.

“Right from its first introduction the DBX has represented Aston Martin’s dynamic and design values in a way that proves not all SUVs have to conform to the same compromises. With the DBX707 we have pushed the boundaries in every area to create a car which sets new standards of performance and desirability. The fastest, most powerful, best handling and most engaging car of its kind, it propels Aston Martin to the pinnacle of SUV performance,” said Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Tobias Moers. DBX707 production is due to commence in Q1 of 2022, with first deliveries scheduled to begin during early Q2 2022.
