Dubai: MCC England XI beat recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) winners Peshawar Zalmi by seven runs using the Duckworth Lewis rule to top their group in the Emirates Twenty20 (T20) tournament at the ICC Academy in Dubai Sports City on Friday.

Peshawar had set a target of 133-8 and MCC replied with 49-3 off 5.5 overs before rain stopped play.

Eleven overs were lost due to the weather, leaving MCC in need of 20 runs to win off the remaining 3.1 overs, a requirement they met with ease. MCC topped their group with the victory following an earlier six wicket win over Durham Jets.

Peshawar had also beaten Durham by 35-runs earlier on Thursday, making their final group game against MCC on Friday a winner-takes-all affair, but in the end they had to settle for second.

In the other group, Lancashire Lightning beat Lahore Qalandars by 16 runs to top the table.

Lightning got 91/6 to Lahore’s 74/4, after opening on Thursday with a 63-run win over Birmingham Bears.

Lahore had also beaten the Birmingham Bears by six runs late on Thursday and finished second in the group ahead of last placed Birmingham with their defeat to Lancashire.

As a result, Lancashire and MCC both went through to the final of the eighth Emirates T20 tournament, to be played later on Friday.
