Abu Dhabi

In Abu Dhabi, the parking authority, Mawaqif, has provided several parking spaces. Despite that, people continue to park badly. A few days ago, two cars were found to be parked wrongly near my school for more than three hours, blocking other cars that were properly parked. This was despite there being plenty of available parking spaces on the other side of the road.

They had parked the vehicles there and left behind no business cards, so there was no way to contact them. If the motorists, whose cars were blocked, had to leave, they wouldn’t have been able to do so.

It is awful to find that people park their cars without care for their fellow residents. Does our sense of convenience blind us from our duty as residents of this country? We are living in a world that runs on our sense of judgment, cooperation, adherence to law and order and a basic civic sense. What is convenient to us may cause great inconvenience to others!

It is not that we do not understand the consequences due to knowledge deficit, but somehow look the other way due to our focus on immediate problems and we completely disconnect ourselves from Nature and our environment.

There is a famous saying, ‘what goes around comes around’. So, my appeal to all is not to treat yourself as an island — your actions affect others.
