I am writing this report as a concern towards the food thrown away by restaurants or small cafeterias. It is shocking to know about the amount of food that is wasted in this manner, while on the other hand there are 795 million undernourished people in the world, as stated by the World Food Programme (WFP).

It is a shame to see people throwing away food due to the fact that an excess amount was made by them. After being thrown out, it is left to rot in garbage bins, landfills or even the side of a street (as seen in photograph).

Many a times, there are cats, dogs or crows that come and eat the leftovers. But, that is only possible for the first few days. As days pass, the food becomes stale and is ignored even by these animals.

I am concerned about this wastage. I feel that cafeteria owners should try making enough food by finding the daily average consumption by their general customers and not make any extra, because that is eventually thrown away. The authorities should also take stringent measures to stop this wastage.

As so many people don’t even get a proper meal every day, I feel it is completely unjust for food to be thrown away in this manner.
