Sharjah

A few days ago, while walking through the main lobby in our building in Sharjah, I saw hundreds of leaflets and brochures from different stores, retailers and restaurants lying on the floor, table, staircase, on the ramp for wheelchairs, in the elevators and even outside apartment doors.

It was such a bad scene to witness, as it amounts to not only the obvious wastage of paper, which comes from trees, but also gives tarnishes the look of the property. Additionally, if someone is not careful while walking, he or she could even slip and get injured.

I know this is not the first time that this issue is being raised, but because of the fact that it is still happening and getting worse, it needs attention and that’s why I thought of writing about it.

I would like to urge store owners to think twice before printing so many leaflets and more importantly, think before dumping them like this in heaps, in residential buildings. They may say that such leaflets are promotional materials and bring them customers, which is fair and understandable, but they can think of sticking just one pamphlet on building notice boards, after taking permission from the security guards. This would grab the attention of all residents and serve its purpose.

As a responsible and eco-conscious resident, I just left one leaflet behind, picked the rest and put them in a recycling bin meant for paper disposal.
