Overflowing water is a cause for concern amongst residents.

Sharjah: As a resident of the Muwaileh Commercial District in Sharjah, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities towards a major issue being faced by the community. There is overflowing waste water in our area and I am worried that soon, many health issues might arise due to the stagnant water.

I am not sure what the exact cause of this problem is. It could be because the underground waste water storage does not have the capacity to hold the amount of waste being collected each day. In this case, frequent cleaning or emptying of the storage area can help solve the issue.

Nobody can stand the smell. It causes not only general discomfort, but is so bad that it can also lead to vomiting. It discourages residents of the area from leaving their buildings and engaging in activities like walking in the area, because the stagnant water could be a breeding ground for many illnesses. The most likely victims are children in the vicinity, as despite multiple warnings by their parents, they do not stop playing outdoors.

The massive, unnecessary consumption of water also adds to the issue. Residents should consider minimising the use of water and prevent wastage of water during household activities, like cleaning.

We need to put an end to this and act quickly to prevent anyone from falling ill. I hope the authorities will do the needful for the sake of the residents. We must cooperate with each other and save water for future generations.
