Children are in danger of falling into a gaping hole in the Al Majaz area of Sharjah, according to Gulf News reader Supriya Sawant. Image Credit: Supriya Sawant/Gulf News Reader

I am a resident of King Faisal Street in the Al Majaz area of Sharjah.

In December, a ditch was dug up in the pavement outside our building, in order to put in some cables. For about two to three weeks, the work continued.

After the cables were installed, the pavement surrounding the building was put back into order again, except for this particular ditch. Since then, the huge gaping hole has been left as is.

Our concern is that the ditch lies exactly at the spot where all school buses stop in the area.

Every day, when children are waiting for their school bus to arrive, it becomes a matter of concern for parents who pray that none of them accidentally slip and fall into the ditch.

When these children get home in the afternoon, they are so eager to get off their respective buses, that they do not pay attention to the danger below. Small children especially are keen on playing with the bricks and sand lying around.

I urge the authorities concerned to pay heed to this issue, and hope the work will be finished quickly and the school bus stop will be made safe again for our little ones.
