For more than two years the pavement tiles, as seen in the picture, across from the traffic lights on King Faisal Street in Sharjah have been in a pathetic condition.

Not only are they an eye sore, but they also pose a danger to pedestrians, especially to those crossing this portion of the pavement at night, as the street lights in that area are not powerful.

People like me, who live in the area and are aware of the prevailing condition, are wise enough to dodge these tiles when we approach and walk along a safer path.

However, many a times I’ve seen people slip while walking on these uneven tiles, which swing as soon as one steps on them. It would be no surprise if someone were to twist their ankle in the process.

I hope that the Sharjah municipality will take measures to rectify this hazard at the earliest.
