Abu Dhabi

I reside in the Khalidiya area in Abu Dhabi and recently started walking as part of my new exercise regime. I sometimes use the pedestrian bridge to cross the road in the Madinat Zayed sector. During my walk, I saw elderly people and women with children struggling to climb the stairs with their strollers, because the elevator is not operational.

Realising their difficulty, the passersby shyly asked the women whether they needed help to take their strollers upstairs.

I know this bridge was constructed more than a year ago, but I wonder why the elevator was never made operational. A poster placed near the elevator suggests that the “elevator work is in progress”, but nothing seems to be happening.

In recent years, the authorities have started constructing pedestrian bridges in and out of Abu Dhabi city. This initiative was well appreciated by residents who were concerned about the ease of crossing roads and I am sure it will help in reducing the number of accidents related to this. Such pedestrian bridges mainly help residents to cross the road safely, especially daily commuters, as they head to work or their family.

I request the concerned authorities to take necessary action and inform the relevant contractor to make the elevator operational soon. This would help all commuters and be of great service.

I hope the authorities also construct more pedestrian bridges to help and reduce the number of jaywalkers and accidents in the capital.
