The residents of the UAE are blessed to have a great road system and infrastructure. We must be amongst the best in the world. But, the sad reality is that we do not respect the system. People continue to be careless and reckless on the roads, with no regard for the rules and regulations. On a daily basis, you can see bad examples of such behaviour.

One such thing I come across very often is motorists who fail to stop in time when a traffic signal goes red. They end up stopping on the pedestrian crossing, which is designed by the authorities for people to safely cross the road. However, with a car parked on it, it becomes hard for pedestrians to walk. Additionally, it could also lead to an accident with a pedestrian being severely injured if a motorist fails to stop.

Another issue that I have noticed is the way motorists park their vehicles. A few days ago, I came across a vehicle that was parked in a manner where 50 per cent of the car was on the pavement (as seen in photograph). The motorist actually made enough space for another vehicle to park behind it. I don’t have any words to describe this behaviour. I don’t understand why people cannot understand the basics of driving and parking! Despite there being fines in place, motorists continue to be irresponsible and cause inconvenience to others. I hope the authorities look into this and be stricter with such violators.
