Gulf News reader Neola Castelino raises concern over the lack of proper roads in Jebel Ali Industrial Area. Image Credit: Neola Castelino

The Jebel Ali Industrial Area is home to thousands of workers of various different Dubai-based companies. The only means of going back to their camps are muddy roads (as seen in photograph).

These roads are used by several buses and vans on a daily basis, as they are a means of transport to carry the workers to their workplaces. This is also a route for heavy trucks, which travel around this area, too. This area doesn’t have any streetlights either. Many of the workers shop for their groceries late in the evenings, after coming from work, and without any streetlights it makes it difficult for them to walk in the dark.

Why have the authorities not taken any initiative yet to make roads in such industrial areas? Dubai has many flyovers and an ample number of roads and many more are also being constructed on a daily basis. I hope that the road authorities do take the necessary action and build roads in Jebel Ali Industrial Area, too.

After so much hard work, these workers also need some basic facilities in their area of residence.

FACTBOX:

The reader’s concerns were raised with the management of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

They stated: “In keeping up with the continuous development drive of Dubai, the RTA sets up road and infrastructural plans both short and long term. The said area, which includes the roads in Jebel Ali Industrial, is planned to have construction in the beginning of 2018 as per the five-year plan of pavement roads works.”
