Abu Dhabi: After two days of protests in the capital over the a new contract, drivers of Cars Taxi yesterday went back to work.

The drivers were protesting the reduced commission rates in which they claimed would reduce their income by more than 50 per cent.

Gulam Al Beloushi, CEO of Cars Taxi, told Gulf News the protests occurred due to a misunderstanding.

"The new commission rate would only lead to reduced earnings if a driver earns less than Dh375 per day on average. Since most of our drivers earn more than Dh400 daily, this new contract should not affect their monthly income," he said.

He added that 25 per cent of the drivers had already signed the contract and expected the rest to follow.

When Gulf News spoke to a number of drivers, most denied having signed the new contract. M.F., 32, a driver from Sri Lanka who has been with Cars Taxi for two years, said he and most of his colleagues were planning to resign.
