Vimala Benjamin DeSouza Pedestrians’ plight A pedestrian crossing in Sharjah is difficult to use as the road has a lot of fast-moving traffic and there are no traffic lights to stop the vehicles. Image Credit: Vimala Benjamin DeSouza

Recently, I was in the Al Yarmook area of Sharjah, trying to cross the road near a popular restaurant. There is a pedestrian crossing located in front of it. But when does one use this crossing?

Cars zoom by on either side of the road all the time. It would be an effective crossing if there was a traffic light before it to stop the oncoming motorists.

This is a very busy road with eateries on both sides and no pedestrian crossings anywhere else.

I request the authorities to look in to this matter and do the needful. I am eagerly waiting for a crossing we can easily use to safely cross the road!
