I am a passionate reader and the list of authors that would top my favourite list would be endless. I savour reading in its full essence and read any book that I can get my hands on. Therefore the task of selecting a favorite book is very difficult.
But, ‘The Alchemist’ would always remain to be one of the best, most inspirational and motivational books that I have ever read.
Written by Paulo Coelho, it is a story, dazzling in its powerful simplicity and inspiring wisdom. The story revolves around an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids.
Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest.
No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way. But, what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within.
Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is an eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts.
After reading this book, I realised the ‘me’ within and also learned to follow my heart.
The famous line from the book, “When you want something with all your heart the entire world conspires to help you reach it”, has stuck with me. Although the quote brought about conflicting thoughts inside me, I was later successful in getting at its essence to understand and appreciate the gold mine of meaning hidden in a few lines.
I would suggest this book to everyone who seeks inspiration and truly the desire to achieve in life.
