Michael Crichton’s ‘A Case Of Need’, is one of my favourite books, although I had read it years ago, in an old public library.

We find the main narrator, who is a pathologist, trying to save his friend, a fellow doctor, from being arrested for the murder of a woman, while performing her abortion. It comes under the thriller and mystery category as well as under medical fiction. The reason why this book left a mark on me, is because of two things.

One is due to the pages at the end of the book. It explores medical subjects that are illegal and taboo in some places. This book, and the author, question our ideology behind what is right and what is wrong.

Secondly, having a sister in the medical field, has made me interested in medical fiction, especially ones with a gripping plot. From suspecting every character of committing the crime, to thinking maybe the woman killed herself, this book is a must read if you love thrillers with a little bit of descriptive writing.

I would truly recommend it to everyone, at least as a one-time read.
