I have encountered the same situation with hidden charges in my etisalat bill, as other Gulf News readers have, when they write to the newspaper to complain about it.

I received my bill in December 2015 for a huge amount of Dh2,989; I expected to pay only Dh1,025. When I checked the bill statement, I saw a portion there, amounting to Dh2,245 with the description: “Partial Period Rental - Not PABX”. When I asked for details about it, etisalat said this amount was due to WiFi data gifting, which is not acceptable, since I did not intentionally give any data.

I remember in November 2015, someone called, saying he was from etisalat, and told me that I had won Dh500,000. He asked me to send a code to 1410. Then, etisalat responded to the text, saying: “Do not disclose/send to anyone, this code is not related to any prize raffle draw from etisalat”. After that, I received numerous text messages stating that I had sent data to a few particular numbers, but I did not send any.

I called 101 to complain about this issue for more than a week and during my third call, they told me they have created a fraud team to investigate this issue. But until now, no action has been taken. I hope Gulf News can help me.

The management of etisalat responds:

Kindly note that the customer shared the mobile app token details with the other person and accordingly, data gifting was sent using the mobile app. Please note the customer is not eligible for any fee waive.

(Process initiation: January 19. Response from organisation: January 26.)
