Unauthorised insurance

I have a FGB credit card. One year ago, they deducted Dh350 from my card for insurance protection, without my permission. I received my statement in February 2015. I contacted the bank about the insurance on the same day and they promised that they would credit the amount back to my account within 45 days. After 45 days, I sill hadn’t received my cash back. I called the bank again, and they replied that they would return the money within 10 days. I have continued the process every month but now it’s been one year, and I still haven’t received my money.

Recently, I paid all my outstanding dues, and then contacted the bank to cancel my card, but they refused to do so because the insurance had auto-renewed. How did it auto-renew, without the customer’s permission? Now, I need to pay another Dh350 again to cancel my card. The bank replied that I would need to wait another 45 days, for them to return the amount, and only after that could I cancel my card. The bank is trying to cheat me again. I have two credit cards with another bank; I have not faced any problem with them. I hope Gulf News can help me in this matter.

The management of FGB responds:

FGB is grateful for all customer feedback to which we give careful consideration as we strive to consistently deliver the highest standards of service. The bank has been in contact with Mr Mohiyudin and the matter has been resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

Mr Mohiyudin responds:

The issue still remains, and is not resolved yet. I received a call from FGB and the representative told me the auto renewed cash would be credited to my account within one week. The amount they took the first time without my permission, could not be returned. How is the issue resolved if I haven’t got the lost money?

FGB responds:

FGB is grateful for all customer feedback, to which we give careful consideration as we strive to consistently deliver the highest standards of service. The bank has been in contact with Mr Mohiyudin and confirmed that the charges will be reversed.

Mr Mohiyudin responds:

Thank you Gulf News, for the support. I received a call from FGB and they promised to reverse last year’s insurance amount within seven days.
