Reader has suffered abroad due to blocked card
I have been a customer of Standard Chartered bank from the past one and a half years. I took a loan and credit card from them and have a satisfactory repayment history with the bank. I went for my annual vacation on April 23, 2015, and in my absence, the bank blocked my card without informing me.
Due to this, I suffered a lot in India, as I was not able to make hotel payments there. I also sent an email to Standard Chartered to enquire about the reason for blocking the card. However, I did not see anyone accountable in the organisation, who could respond to my case. Prior to leaving for vacation, I received a call from the bank, which is why I made a full payment or some Dh100 excess payment on my card. Nobody informed me about the outstanding amount on this card.
I have the following queries:
1. What is the actual reason for blocking this card?
2. Why has the bank not informed me about the issue, before blocking the card?
3. Does the bank suspect suspicious activity on this card?
Kindly help.

The management of Standard Chartered responds:
Upon receiving the complaint, Standard Chartered Customer Care Unit contacted the client and informed him of the reasons behind temporally suspending the credit card. All considerations have now been satisfied and the client has not raised any further issue thereafter.
Mr Joshi responds:
Thank you Gulf News for the timely help. Standard Chartered immediately contacted me after the newspaper’s intervention, and helped resolve the issue.
