I would like to bring the following complaint to the attention of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) for a positive resolution.

I was away on leave from the third week of June. My Dewa bill for June came to about Dh1,700, whereas my regular bill for all the years I have been living in the UAE (10 years) has averaged Dh700 per month. Again, in July, my bill came up to another Dh2,000 due to excess water usage, whereas we were not in the house for the month of July, as well.

When I raised a complaint with Dewa, I received a standard reply — they would charge around Dh30 to check the meter, to which, I agreed. Dewa technicians visited our house and found there was no water leakage happening. They even changed the meter.

However, when I enquired again later, Dewa representatives responded that the meter was correct and we would need to pay the amount.

I would appreciate Gulf News’ intervention to get this anomaly corrected and ensure the correct billing is done.

Editor’s note: The complaint was forwarded to Dewa for comments. However, despite repeated reminders, its management did not respond.
