I am writing this complaint seeking Gulf News’ help to find a possible solution for an issue I am facing due to FGB’s insurance plan. They enrolled me into it, without my approval.

In November 2016, I received a call from one of FGB’s representatives and was asked to enrol for a Dh350 annual premium insurance policy. They also added that the amount would be deducted from my credit card on a monthly basis. I accepted the plan and got the policy documents through mail.

A few days later, I received another policy document for Dh1,700 annual premium with a monthly deduction of Dh150. I was shocked and raised a complaint on the same day, but FGB said that it could not be closed and I would need to pay Dh1,700 if I wanted to cancel the policy.

Within a week’s time, how can I accept two policies? What purpose would I have for holding two similar policies?

I asked for evidence of my acceptance but there was no response from their end. In my financial situation, it is not possible to pay the money. Please advise if there is a possibility of cancelling the FGB card without paying this insurance amount.

The management of FGB responds:

FGB is grateful for all customer feedback, to which, we give careful consideration as we strive to consistently deliver the highest standards of service. The bank has been in contact with Mr Malaiyandi, and the matter has been resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

Mr Malaiyandi responds:

Many thanks to Gulf News for assisting me in getting a resolution. I am really happy and did not expect such great service. I received a call from FGB and they have agreed to cancel the insurance plan. Whatever amount they have deducted for the insurance will be returned to my account in the next statement.
