I want to bring to the notice of Gulf News, the unauthorised usage of my Citibank Mastercard. I have been following up with Citibank since the day of this mishap — February 5, 2017. I have blocked my card, and approached Citibank’s customer service innumerable times, yet the issue is not resolved.

Transaction amounts of Dh5,000 and Dh1,500 were credited as payment to a telecommunications company, although I was not responsible for the transaction. As soon as I got the message from Citibank about the transaction, I lodged a complaint with Citibank and blocked by Mastercard.

The bank says it will take 90 to 120 days [to process]. I wonder why it should take so long. Since the amount was paid to the telecommunications company in Dubai, the bank can follow up with them and recover the amount.

According to several sources, I know it should not take more than 30 days. It has now been over 50 days and I do not know the outcome of the issue so far. The bank has since been sending me statements to pay this disputed amount and has started charging me finance charges, as well. Nevertheless, I have paid the total amount, including the finance charges, of Dh6,732. I request this amount be reimbursed to me by Citibank.

From Mr Syed Mahmoud Seddiq Hussain

Dubai
