Card closure issue

I would like to highlight the issue of closing a credit card, which I raised with Barclays, or what is now Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB).

The Barclays Business cards had been taken over by ADIB in October 2014. All the card features were discontinued, for which we were paying annual fees. They informed us they would discontinue the card just one day before the cancellation of features.

I have paid the full amount for card closure and visited the ADIB branch located at Emaar Business Park, Greens, multiple times, but received no response.

The card has already been submitted in March at ADIB’s Al Barsha branch.

ADIB staff called me several times to confirm a replacement card, which I have refused, yet they are forcefully imposing their card on me. I want my annual fees to be refunded and want compensation for the tough time I have had over the past couple of months.

The complaint was logged in March, and closed on April 22 without any discussion or resolution. I have highlighted the same issue to Central Bank.

Please help in resolving my issue.

From Mr Rakesh Bhatia

Dubai

The management of Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank responds:

The complaint was not resolved correctly in April. Customer requested for cancellation of card at Al Barsha branch in March 2015. His outstanding at that time was Dh3,507.91 however the payment done was Dh3,500 and the officer accepted the card cancellation documents and gave a copy to the customer.

Customer has made the payment of the shortfall of Dh7.91 and we have reversed the profit charges. He would call again for cancellation of card. Customer was satisfied with the resolution.

Mr Bhatia responds:

Thank you. However, it has taken more than three months to close the card account.
