I would like to seek Gulf News’ help in the dispute resolution of my credit card with First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB). I had a credit card with FAB, and I did a buy-out for this credit card with Noor Bank and submitted the cheque, according to the amount mentioned in the liability letter. Once the cheque was cleared, FAB informed me that I would need to pay an additional Dh1,200, and only then would they close my credit card.

I raised a complaint with FAB but they are not ready to close my card till the time I pay this amount. The letter from Noor Bank states that if FAB is not able to close the credit card, they should not encash the cheque and should return it to Noor Bank. The liability letter of FAB states that if the total liability exceeds the cheque amount, FAB will return the cheque. FAB put the cheque in clearance and received the money as stated in the liability letter, but now, they refuse to close the card. I request Gulf News to raise my concern with FAB.

From Mr Fazal Chawdhary

Sharjah

The management of FAB responds:

FAB supports the growth ambitions of its stakeholders and goes beyond financial products and services, and as such, we are grateful for all customer feedback as we strive to consistently deliver the highest standards of service. The bank has been in contact with Mr Chawdhary, and explained that the outstanding amount on his credit card needs to be cleared, before it can be closed.

(Process initiation: October 26. Response from organisation: December 7. Process completion: December 10.)
