I have a large concern with the FGB Ferrari Card. Recently I started to use my FGB infinite Ferrari Card again. I pay my full statement every month for all my cards, but in July I made a mistake when the deposit machine of FGB showed me that the amount due was only Dh500. It didn’t mention that this was the minimum due amount. After a few days, I checked my email and found out the total outstanding was around Dh10,000. I have been charged for the finance charges. In August, I made the full payment as per the statement and expected everything to be okay, but when I checked the statement of September I noticed there was a finance charge again. I thought this was a mistake and I called the bank twice to clarify. The call centre informed me that this was not a mistake and that they would charge the finance charges until I complete two months of full payments! I have been using my credit card for 15 years and I never faced such a policy. Is that legal to charge even when I make full payment?

A few years ago I stopped using my FGB card when they charged me for the valet parking services. When I called them to check the reason, they said that I had overused the service five months previous. It is not easy to remember how many times you have used valet parking after five months, but I was very sure I hadn’t. After many follow ups, they agreed this was not correct.

I advise everyone to check their statement every month.

FGB is grateful for all customer feedback to which we give careful consideration as we strive to consistently deliver the highest standards of service. The bank has been in contact with Mr Ayoub, and the matter has been resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

Mr Ayoub responds:

Thank you for the follow up, I have been contacted by the bank and they have revised the charges for the second month. However, I’m still not satisfied with their explanation on how they calculate the finance charges on the second month. Also, this is not properly mentioned on the credit card terms and conditions. I’m not sure if the extra charge was legally as per UAE Central Bank law. Would you please ask FGB to include in their reply the terms that cover the finance charges on their credit card?

The charges was only Dh139, which is a small amount, but I was more upset on how they calculate the charges after I made a full payment on time. Thank you, Gulf News, for the excellent follow up.
