They are being dubbed as the 'Nym Wars" - the online community is fiercely debating the relevance and need for allowing users to remain anonymous or use pseudonyms. These are the statements that will be debated:

Focus

  • Asking users for real names is the only way to promote civil discourse.
  • People cannot afford to live under pseudonyms as the internet becomes integrated with various aspects of everyday life.
  • Social media will not act as a catalyst for social change if it does not offer a certain level of anonymity.

It is not a bad idea to have screen names instead of real names in the Social Network, in any case, people can be tracked down if found guilty. Therefore not necessary to obtain real names of users.

People are at temptation to use some elegant names for their identity or perhaps, in social networking sites like facebook. The main disadvantage is that it is not apparent to detect that person.
