Dubai: If you love cakes, then you have no reason not to partake in the International Cake Day celebration on November 26. To make the occasion even more memorable, XPRESS brings you a lowdown on some unconventional cakes you probably haven’t tried before.
Gulab Jamun Cheesecake
If you like gulab jamun and cheesecake, you can now enjoy both in one bite thanks to this Maharani cheesecake by 8 ounce, an online cake shop based in Dubai. It also offers other unusual cakes such as baklava pudding cheesecake (made of baklava - filo pastry layers) and Rangeena tart (made of dates, pistachios and coffee).
Engineered cakes
Sugaholic, a Karama-based bakery has redefined cakes by coming up with what it calls ‘engineered cakes’. These cakes come with motion effects. For instance, the tea spread cake depicts tea being poured from a pot into a cup.
Japanese chiffon cake
If you’ve been looking out for the chiffon cakes that went viral on social media some time ago, you’d be happy to know that they are available at all Yakitate branches in the UAE. The Japanese bakery just added a line of chiffon cakes in pistachio, vanilla as well as caramel flavours. The small portion is priced at Dh12, while the medium portion is priced Dh40. The outlets also accept orders.
Lotus Pizzookie
If you’re a fan of Lotus biscuits and marshmallows, this may be a dream come true for you. Yummy in my Tummy, a dessert parlour in Al Mamzar serves a ‘pizza’ cake filled with marshmallows, Lotus biscuits and lots of caramel.
Price: Dh25 for a single serving, Dh45 for two.
Milk cakes
Sukkar, a new Emirati bake shop located on Al Wasl Road, is changing the connotation of milk cakes. According to the bakers, what’s milk cake if it’s not dipped in milk? All their milk cakes (they have close to 10 flavours) are served with flavoured milk dip. A rose milk cake comes with rose milk, a pistachio cake comes with pistachio milk. Prices start at Dh250.
