Abu Dhabi: The first thing that caught my eye as I entered the Texas De Brazil restaurant at Yas Mall was the elaborate salad bar. It had tempting fresh gourmet items such as imported cheeses, roasted vegetables and creamy lobster bisque. To satiate the local palate there was hummus, wine leaves and tabbouleh too.

Don’t let the salads fill you up because Texas De Brazil is all about meat. The restaurant’s menu combines the cuisine of Southern Brazil with the generous servings of Texas in an all-you-can-eat dining experience.

The churrascaria (similar to barbeque) is a cooking method in which meat cuts are grilled in a traditional open flame and carved by skilled Brazilian Gauchos, also known as the ‘cowboys of Brazil’, at your table. Getting down to food, first to come to the table were Brazilian beef ribs which turned out to be a tad heavy for me, a light eater. More meat like lamb chops and filet mignon followed. But I preferred the chicken stuffed with parmesan cheese, chicken wings and braised prawns which just melted in the mouth.

Interestingly, each diner is given a green and red disk to indicate if one needs more meat or one is done.

Side dishes included fried bananas topped with cinnamon which could be mistaken for a dessert. A spoonful of this will clean your palate for the next indulgence of meat. Although there were authentic Brazilian delicacies like cheese cake, crème brulee or flan for dessert, I chose the chocolate mousse instead and it brought my churrascaria dining experience to a sweet end.

On the whole, if you are a meat lover, this is the place for you.
