Dubai: If you are wondering what goes on behind serving food on a truck, a new web series titled We started the Food Truck Thing answers your queries. The series is a joint production by four food truck entrepreneurs in the UAE who have come together to give residents a sneak peek into their daily lives.

The show, comprising nine episodes, is a real-life drama-documentary showing events and challenges the owners of GoBai, Mia Strada, Calle Tacos and Bio Bean trucks face day in and day out.

“Everyone has a ‘pink & fluffy’ view of running a food truck business. It’s definitely not just turning up and selling - there is a lot that happens. This is what we want to show the people – raw and realistic, spilling the beans on what we go through every day, which will hopefully help budding entrepreneurs and fellow food truckers alike,” says Cara Davies, founder of GoBai. GoBai was one of the first five food trucks in Dubai that were launched in 2015. In the first episode, Abrar Salama, owner of Bio Bean truck, tells her story about how she spent all her savings and is now “stuck”. She says, “We have to rely on events in order to reach our customers as it is not possible to just park on the roadside and start selling. The charges at these events are exorbitant and extremely unjustifiable.”

The second episode gets a little more intense as suppliers back out on Dana Al Sharif, owner of Calle Tacos, as she grapples with household chores and her two children aged four and one. On the other hand, Taimur Khan, owner of Mia Strada, is seen bargaining with event organisers and dealing with his ‘difficult’ chef.

Each episode is about eight minutes long and a new episode airs every Sunday at 8pm on their YouTube channel as well as on their Facebook page. This Sunday will be the sixth episode.
